ArtWalk History
The success story began in 1994 at Holiday Park Resort -
The original two day event was organized by Jody La Fontaine of Holiday Park Resort to showcase the Resort's extensive art collection which at that time featured over 80 artists from the Okanagan Valley. The show was an overwhelming success and became an annual event at the Resort.
Within five years the show was so popular a larger venue was needed. Jody turned ArtWalk over to the nearby District of Lake Country (made up of the communities formerly known as Winfield, Carr's Landing, Okanagan Centre and Oyama), and in 1999 ArtWalk became Lake Country ArtWalk and moved to the newly completed Lake Country Community Complex. Over time, ArtWalk has been expanded to include a juried show featuring more than 200 Okanagan artists, photographers and sculptors as well as exhibits by Okanagan University College Fine Arts Students, audio visual presentations, musical entertainment, children's activities pavilion and live theatre productions.
Past theatre performances, held in the 250 seat Creekside Theatre which forms a part of the Community Complex, have included 'Dried Flowers', 'Circus Gothic', 'Dem Crazy Blues', 'Echoes of Legends, Shadows of Stars' and 'Double Exposure'; most have played to sold out audiences.
Musical entertainment is provided continuously throughout both days at all three venues - Courtyard, Community Gym and School Gym. Entertainers are chosen for variety and to enhance the overall art experience.
ArtWalk also offers a selection of food vendors situated for convenience mainly in the Courtyard.
